THE CLOCK KEEPS TICKING
It’s all about time—or the lack thereof—that inspired “Time Waits (For No One),” but the song was meant as a production music track. I was being cheeky when I called it “Tom Waits (For No One)” knowing music libraries weren’t clamoring for a creaky, attic-dwelling piece of rusty Americana. And yet something about this moody, unused track inspired words and melody that flowed in a single sitting. The lyrics were Tom Waits-inspired, sure, but also deeply personal as I consider my own mortality—especially my close brush with The Reaper in 2019. What does it mean to be in the back half of my existence, knowing tomorrow isn’t guaranteed?
I re-recorded my scratch vocals from years ago and fine-tuned the lyrics knowing this was going to be shared with the public. The music remains untouched and it’s one of the few times where I don’t play guitar on one of my own solo songs. It’s also a fitting track to start off a new year, itself just a few days away, so here’s a preview trailer; I hope to expand on lyric video ideas for future releases.
